[17:42, 14/06/2026] Nathaniel: Cat's Hole - Downstream Sump

13th June 2026

New dive done in downstream section of the canal.

Is a 2.5m wide high flow siphon sump.

~1m of clearance

max depth -2m

Left in open passage with reel on the line. Had to turn due to gas limits. Very similar to section I was diving in Freda's just has to get a bit wider.

14th June 2026

Another 20m added downstream, 10m added upstream (canal)

Entered via main canal instead of side access to gauge for bigger bottles. Not much better but easier on the surface. I have tried to keep the line as out of the way as possible but if it presents too much of a navigational hazard welcome to cut it. I am not sure how passing the first duck is with it's placement. If someone visits in low conditions please report, i can move it.

Max depth -2.3m

Passage dimensions increase slightly

Removed reels.

Very low passage with cobbled bottom.

At the limit, the main flow is travelling up a rift. Pursued it for a little while before gas limits and discomfort called for a return. There was passage to the east where there was no flow. This is the conditions that I experienced in Freda's sump so hoping this is where the connection lies. I think where the flow disappeared to is the source in Cats Hole B.

Everything is travelling generally 040 bearing. Last 5 -10m 080.

Also visited canal access further downstream under the low crawl. Would be worth a dive for access for getting bigger cylinders in.

Thank you to Peter for help today! Much appreciated
